Open the full video description to read more. 🇦🇺 THE ADVENTURE -------------------------------------------------- Yarrangobilly Area, NSW Australia April 2021 (Autumn) High 26°C, Low 15°C, Rain 0mm In this video I hike the Yarrangobilly Caves and Thermal Pool during a weekend trip with my partner. The Yarrangobilly Area is located 485km south west of Sydney, and will take about 5 1/2 hours to drive. The roads are sealed all the way until Yarrangobilly Caves Road, which leads to the Yarrangobilly Caves Visitor Centre. The road will take 10-15 minutes to drive, and is accessible by 2WD. The RMS also recommends that all vehicles carry snow chains during winter, in case of extreme weather. Entry to the area is $4 per vehicle per day, and is open all year except for Christmas Day. Pets and domestic animals are not permitted, except for certified assistance animals. If you plan to enter any of the caves you'll need to purchase a ticket. Prices vary depending on the time of year, but at the time our self-guided tour of the South Glory Cave was $18 for adults and $14 for children. Cave tours are guided or self-guided depending on which of the six the caves you choose to visit. Conditions in the caves are damp, dark, and usually average 10°C cooler than the outside temperature. Be sure to check online for cave closures before you visit, as the caves may close for maintenance, or health and safety concerns. For the hike, we joined together the Castle Cave Walk, the South Glory Cave tour, and the Yarrangobilly River Walk. Each of these trails are 3.2km, 0.5km, and 3km, respectively; for a total of 6.7km. Starting from the Glory Hole car park, which is the first car park after the visitor centre, all the hikes in the area can effectively be joined together in any way you prefer, and will eventually end back to the car park. The trails are clearly marked and well maintained, so are suitable for beginner level hikers. Depending on the hikes and activities chosen, you will likely spend half a day to one full day in the area. Another feature of the karst landscape is the Thermal Pool, which can be accessed most easily from the car park of the same name, or via the River Walk if coming from the other direction. Originally constructed in 1896, the pool is fed from a natural spring at a rate of 100,000 litres per hour, and boasts an all year round temperature of 27°C, so make sure to bring your bathers and towel.
